There is something poetic about the mad inventor of toxic waste having a terrified mushroom cloud as an alter ego.

Sour candy is often profound in this way.  Another example: the “Sour Patch” is actually meant to represent Dante’s first circle of Hell, where “Kids” (souls) are in limbo between eternal sweetness and eternal sourness.
